Sheriff
Michael L. Granthum

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department works closely with the citizens of Selma and Dallas County - along with local, state and federal agencies - to make our community a safe place to live, work and enjoy life. The department, lead by Sheriff Michael L. Granthum, employs 27 sworn deputies who patrol nearly 980 square miles of territory. The department maintains 18 marked cars and their central dispatch office handles communications for both the county and the city of Selma, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department maintains the County Jail with a staff of 28 people. The jail houses, on average, 180 inmates. The department maintains security at the Dallas County Courthouse with 3 courtrooms in session.

Officers answer public safety complaints and concerns, as well as conduct investigations. They serve all subpoenas for both District and Probate Courts, arrest warrants, restraining orders, small claims, evictions and divorce decrees.

The department provides security for parades, escorts and county school functions and provides transportation for state inmates, juveniles and fugitives. In addition, the department assists in County, State and Federal elections by maintaining each precinct and delivering election materials.
