HERBICIDE APPLICATOR
Dallas County is seeking a candidate for the position of Herbicide Applicator in the Road Department. Rate of pay will be $16.00 - $18.00/hr. depending on qualifications and experience. Position is fulltime and offers employee benefits.
Essential Functions: Under the general direction of the Road Superintendent, the employee is responsible for the application of herbicides on Dallas County rights-of-way in a timely, effective, safe and accurate manner. Duties include, but are not limited to, identifying target weeds and determining proper chemical, solution and additive rates as well as application timing; maintaining spray records, chemical inventory, and applicator’s license following State and Federal Guidelines; communicating with immediate supervisor concerning work progress as well as responding to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner; assisting other crews with daily activities when herbicide application is inappropriate or unnecessary.
Education and Experience: Skill in oral and written communication and ability to use computer equipment and programs related to inventory and work orders. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Knowledge of traffic hazards, safety principles, rules, regulations and speed limits.
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a high school diploma or GED and one year of related experience, or any combination of education and experience which meets the qualifications listed. Current and valid Class A or B CDL with tanker endorsement required; Class A preferred. Must have a Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s certification by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries as a Commercial Applicator in the categories of Ground and Right-of-Way. Tanker endorsement and Pesticide certification must be obtained within 2 months of hire, if not currently held.
