Groundskeeper

Dallas County is currently seeking a Full-time Groundskeeper. Under the general direction of the County Administrator, the Groundskeeper will perform landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the facility's grounds as well as the grounds of assigned buildings. Pay will be from $13.50 - $15.00/hr. depending on experience.

Qualifications: HS diploma or equivalency preferred; previous related experience preferred. Must be able to operate various types of power equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, weed-eaters, leaf blowers and other landscaping equipment. Must be able to use hand tools required for landscaping.

        Dallas County Commission has an opening for a full-time Laborer in the Litter Control Unit of the Environmental Services Department.  

Under the general direction of the Litter Truck Driver, the employee performs routine manual labor that includes collecting solid waste along a given route, picking up litter along county roads, and assisting in the maintenance of the litter truck as requested.  Other duties will include those assigned by supervisor.

Dallas County is currently seeking a full-time Nursing Assistant to work with the Medical Officer at the Dallas County Jail. Under the supervision of the Medical Officer, the employee will assist in the provision of care to inmates of the Jail through performance of administrative as well as clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, scheduling of sick call, taking vital signs and assisting the Medical Officer with exams.  Pay range is $12.50 - $15.00/hr. depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency required; certification in any medical/health program preferred, but not required.  Prefer at least six months experience in a clinical setting. The Dallas County Commission is currently seeking a full-time custodian.  Hours of work will be 11 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicant must be able to perform general cleaning and custodial work to ensure assigned buildings are properly cleaned and maintained within acceptable standards.

Applicant must be knowledgeable of the materials and practices essential to the cleaning of buildings and possess knowledge of the use and care of dry vacuum cleaners, mop wringers, mops, brushes, and cleaning solutions.  Must have ability to read and write.  Ability to interact effectively with others and cooperatively with County employees and public.  Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must have reliable transportation.

Kind of Work

Employee will perform custodial activities for the assigned buildings.  Duties will include:

Restrooms – Clean and sanitize restrooms, refilling soap, paper towel and toilet tissue dispensers as needed. 

Breakrooms – Sanitize counter/table top and sinks; Elevators – Clean all interior and exterior surfaces;

Public Areas and Hallways:  Empty all waste receptacles and keep area clean; Sanitize and polish drinking fountains; Clean all glass doors;

Outside Porch/Entryways and Sidewalks:  Sweep steps, alleyways, and entrances around assigned buildings.  All other duties as assigned.

Dallas County is currently seeking a part-time Vector Control/Pesticide Operator to spray county routes with pesticide.  In addition to the routine spraying of regular routes, duties will include spraying specific areas as requested by citizens as well as spraying when requested for various public functions. Will be required to maintain records of areas sprayed, and to maintain vehicle and equipment in proper working condition. Work is seasonal, usually from March until September.

Qualifications:  Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license.  Must have a knowledge of county roads and be able to work evenings and weekends. Must be able to work independently without close supervision. Must have writing skills to maintain records and reading skills to understand technical instructions and forms. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency preferred; however, any combination of education and experience which provides the qualifications listed above will be considered.

          The Equipment Operator will primarily operate light construction and maintenance equipment including tractors, rollers, milling machine, skid steer, etc. and may also operate a variety of equipment including trucks and various other construction equipment as necessary.  Must be able to endure extreme outdoor weather conditions at times and be aware of safety rules involved in the operation of equipment on heavily traveled roads.

        Applicant must possess ability to read and write and to also understand road maps.  Must possess a valid State of Alabama Driver’s License. CDL license preferred but not required.  Prefer some experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment.
