License Commission Clerk

Job Summary: This position works under the general direction of the License Commissioner. The employee provides customer service to the general public by processing and issuing titles, tags, and driver’s licenses.  Updates titles and tag information and enters data into computer. Processes and issues business, hunting, fishing, and boat license. Runs various reports; files; maintains and updates various records; collects cash; and balances cash drawer.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma and working experience with public and money is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, supervisors, and co-workers in person and over the phone
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and general accounting or bookkeeping
  • Good reading and writing skills
  • Math skills to calculate fees, balance drawer, make change, calculate date of tag renewal
  • Knowledge of computers and software and operation of general office equipment
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to deal with persons of differing temperaments
  • Ability to  learn and comprehend Alabama Law and regulations regarding issuance of licenses

Position is Full-time and offers benefits package which includes health, dental, vision and other insurance products as well as State Retirement.  Beginning rate of pay is $10.00/hr.

Medical Officer

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has an opening for a Medical Officer

Under the direction of the Warden, the employee performs routine medical tasks such as dispensing medication.  Medical Officer attends medical rounds with the physician and assists with transportation of inmates to and from medical appointments as necessary.  Medical Officer also determines when inmates need to see a physician.

Starting Pay is $16.87 per hour

                                                Administrative Assistant

The Dallas County Commission is seeking a candidate for the position of Administrative Assistant in the Engineering Department.  The position is full-time and offers employee benefits.  In addition to record-keeping and general clerical duties, job responsibilities include coding and entering daily time sheets for all Road Department employees, providing labor, materials, and equipment information to prepare fund transfer documents, preparing a draft budget for the County Engineer, drafting letters and bid RFP’s, ordering supplies and data entry.  Candidate must be computer literate with experience in Excel and have the ability to learn the County’s ledger system.  This position will report to the County Engineer. 

Education and Experience:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least 2 years of clerical experience required.  Must have knowledge of general office procedures.  Must be able to effectively interact and communicate with the general public as well as internal contacts both in person and over the telephone.  Some basic accounting knowledge preferred but not required.  Salary commensurate with experience.

Dallas County is currently seeking candidates for the position of Enforcement Officer  with the Environmental Services Department.  Position is full-time and offers employee benefits. The Enforcement Officer enforces the rules and regulations of Dallas County and all other state and federal laws applicable to solid waste. This position enforces county litter laws through inspection of illegal dumpsites, solid waste disposal sites and receptacles, as well as inspecting vehicles hauling garbage and rubbish and investigation of litter complaints received from citizens. May issue citations and warrants as necessary and may testify in court regarding violations.  Pay rate will start at $11.00/hr.

Qualifications:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency.  Must possess a  valid Alabama Driver’s License and be insurable. Must be APOST certified.  Must be able to effectively interact and communicate with co-workers and the general public. Must have the ability to document and maintain necessary files and activity logs. Familiarity with the county and its road system a plus but not a requirement.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Juvenile Detention Director, the Detention Counselor will direct the activities of detained youth in all areas.  The Counselor will maintain the safety of detainees at all times, conduct regular check of detainees and maintain order in facility.  Serves meals, supervise youth during visiting hours and may transport detainees to various appointments.  Performs various housekeeping duties or supervise detainees in this function.  Detention Counselor must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency and be able to work flexible hours and be on call on a rotating basis.  Detention Counselor must also have a good temperament and ability to function well in stressful situations.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Laborer

Dallas County Commission has an opening for a Laborer in the Road Department. Work schedule is Monday-Thursday- 10 hour days.

Applicants must have a valid State of Alabama Driver's License. Persons in this position will perform manual labor which may include the following duties: shovel asphalt from dump truck, spread asphalt with rake, sweep road, spray tar and spread cement, clear ditches and beaver dams, install pipes, dig trenches and patch holes. May operate chain saw, tractors, sheep footer and tire rollers. Other duties will include those assigned by supervisor.

Successful applicant must have physical dexterity to operate various pieces of equipment and physical tolerance to work outside, sometimes under adverse conditions. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and have agility to crouch or crawl in restricted places, at times.
