Job Summary: This position works under the general direction of the License Commissioner. The employee provides customer service to the general public by processing and issuing titles, tags, and driver’s licenses.  Updates titles and tag information and enters data into computer. Processes and issues business, hunting, fishing, and boat license. Runs various reports; files; maintains and updates various records; collects cash; and balances cash drawer.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1 -2 years clerical experience preferred
  • Experience dealing with the public and handling money preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, supervisors, and co-workers in person and over the phone
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and general accounting or bookkeeping

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE CLERK

Dallas County is seeking a candidate for the position of Accounts Payable Clerk.  Position is fulltime and offers employee benefits.  In addition to general clerical duties, job responsibilities include receiving county requisitions and issuing purchase orders for them; receiving invoices and matching them with appropriate purchase orders; issuing checks to vendors, as well as distributing monthly appropriations and loan checks; updating computer records of payments made; processing yearly 1099s and maintaining contract and vendor files.  Candidates must be computer literate and have the ability to operate financial software programs.  The Accounts Payable Clerk will report to the County Administrator.

CUSTODIAN (FULL-TIME)

The Dallas County Commission is currently seeking a full-time custodian.  Hours of work will be 11 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicant must be able to perform general cleaning and custodial work to ensure assigned buildings are properly cleaned and maintained within acceptable standards.

Applicant must be knowledgeable of the materials and practices essential to the cleaning of buildings and possess knowledge of the use and care of dry vacuum cleaners, mop wringers, mops, brushes, and cleaning solutions.  Must have ability to read and write.  Ability to interact effectively with others and cooperatively with County employees and public.  Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must have reliable transportation.

Kind of Work

Employee will perform custodial activities for the assigned buildings.  Duties will include:

Restrooms – Clean and sanitize restrooms, refilling soap, paper towel and toilet tissue dispensers as needed. 

Breakrooms – Sanitize counter/table top and sinks; Elevators – Clean all interior and exterior surfaces;

Public Areas and Hallways:  Empty all waste receptacles and keep area clean; Sanitize and polish drinking fountains; Clean all glass doors;

Outside Porch/Entryways and Sidewalks:  Sweep steps, alleyways, and entrances around assigned buildings.  All other duties as assigned.

Equipment Operator I

Dallas County Commission has a full-time opening for an Equipment Operator I.

          The Equipment Operator will primarily operate light construction and maintenance equipment including tractors, rollers, milling machine, skid steer, etc. and may also operate a variety of equipment including trucks and various other construction equipment as necessary.  Must be able to endure extreme outdoor weather conditions at times and be aware of safety rules involved in the operation of equipment on heavily traveled roads.

        Applicant must possess ability to read and write and to also understand road maps.  Must possess a valid State of Alabama Driver’s License. CDL license preferred but not required.  Prefer some experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment.

Dallas County Commission has an opening for a Laborer in the Road Department.  Work schedule is Monday-Thursday- 10 hour days.

Applicants must have a valid State of Alabama Driver’s License.  Persons in this position  will perform manual labor which may include the following duties: shovel asphalt from dump truck, spread asphalt with rake, sweep road, spray tar and spread cement, clear ditches and beaver dams, install pipes, dig trenches and patch holes.  May operate chain saw, tractors, sheep footer and tire rollers.  Other duties will include those assigned by supervisor.

Successful applicant must have physical dexterity to operate various pieces of equipment and physical tolerance to work outside, sometimes under adverse conditions. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and have agility to crouch or crawl in restricted places, at times.

Dallas County is currently seeking a Full-time Probate Clerk.  Under the direction of the Probate Judge and the Chief Clerk, the Probate Clerk performs a variety of high-level clerical tasks related to wills, administrations, guardianships, conservatorships, commitments, name changes, legitimations, adoptions and land condemnations.  This employee creates permanent files, assigns case numbers and records in dockets and index books, checks for accuracy, prepares forms, appoints guardians ad litem and sends out correspondence via certified mail.  In addition, the Probate Clerk collects money and records in receipt book; assures that files and documents are complete for the Judge of Probate; assists the Chief Probate Clerk as needed; performs other clerical tasks such as answering phone, processing incoming and outgoing mail, performing secretarial work for the Judge and assists by performing tasks associated with elections.

Qualifications:  HS diploma or equivalency required; 1-3 years previous clerical experience preferred. Under the direction of the Juvenile Detention Director, the Detention Counselor will direct the activities of detained youth in all areas.  The Counselor will maintain the safety of detainees at all times, conduct regular check of detainees and maintain order in facility.  Serve meals, supervise youth during visiting hours and may transport detainees to various appointments.  Performs various housekeeping duties or supervise detainees in this function.  Detention Counselor must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency and be able to work flexible hours and be on call on a rotating basis.  Detention Counselor must also have a good temperament and ability to function well in stressful situations.
